Maryland’s football program took two steps forward and two steps back in 2025, with their second straight 4–8 season, proving that coach Mike Locksley could establish consistency for the Terps. Despite all the remarkable work he’s done to stabilize the program, Locksley is not resting on his laurels. The coach recently made a big move, signing notable rapper Jason Mills, better known as IDK, to Maryland’s roster as a wide receiver.

IDK was raised in Prince George’s County, so this signing once again proves Mike Locksley’s flair for keeping local talent home. Locksley announced the signing at a press conference featuring the rapper, where he detailed how the signing unfolded: “When I saw Lane Kiffin sign Toosii at LSU, I really thought he was on to something. I always admire the coaches who can stabilize programs, and I think this signing is doing a lot to put our team on the right track.”

Sharing his side of the story, IDK said, “It was crazy, I had just gotten back home from Jimmy Fallon, drunk as hell, when Locks made the call. I thought I was tripping so I just said yes, and then three weeks later I got the offer letter and I was real confused. But then when I called back he said I’m getting a two million dollar NIL package, damn I may as well go for it you know?” Some team staffers grew concerned when internal rumors spread of LSU offering IDK a scholarship, but these were allayed when they instead flipped Toosii from Syracuse. Soon after, IDK officially signed with the team in College Park.

The terms of IDK’s NIL deal include a concession stand exclusively selling IDK records and merchandise, as well as an “IDK Slice” sold exclusively by Ledo Pizza at Maryland football games. It was revealed that Testudo will be featured on IDK’s next mixtape as well. Since the press conference, IDK has attended Maryland’s spring practice and been a surprising success story early on. In Thursday’s practice, IDK caught more balls than any other receiver in catching drills.

All in all, Maryland football looks poised to return to offensive greatness next year, once again thanks to Mike Locksley’s ability to make the most out of a program that probably doesn’t even have the money to buy him out of his contract. But even with his success so far, Locksley still isn’t done adding help for Malik Washington. Sources say that the team is exploring a move to add NFL free-agent, Stefon Diggs, to the roster. Diggs still has one year of college eligibility and is currently seeking an NCAA waiver to be allowed to play in 2026.
