COLLEGE PARK — The University of Maryland Women’s Tennis Team is welcoming a new face this week. Rafaela Nadal will be joining the Terp’s roster for the remainder of the 2025–26 season. A five-star recruit who reportedly dominates on clay courts and plays with exciting spirit, fans and analysts alike are thrilled about this addition.

Maryland currently sits at a strong overall record of 14–4, yet is a less convincing 6–3 against other Big Ten schools. The team is hoping Rafaela can be the final piece of the puzzle that will push the Terrapins to the top of the standings. “We’re really excited for this new addition,” said Head Coach Katie Dougherty. “I’ve seen plenty of his–I mean her tape, she’s the real deal. A lefty that hits with a lot of topspin, what are the chances?”

The coaching staff hopes Rafaela’s distinctive playstyle will add an extra element to their roster. Despite coming in with a hot reputation, she won’t play at First Singles, likely slotting into Second or Third. The Terps believe opponents won’t suspect the best player to be at that position, hoping to catch them off guard and get an easy match win.

In an interview with Junior player, Aida Eissa, The Hare Sports staff inquired about Rafaela’s background since very little was publicly released, noting her distinctively Spanish name: “Well of course it’s Spanish, she’s from Mallorca, erm, I meant Annapolis. Big Spanish population there, I think.” Given Rafaela’s nebulous history, lefty topspin play, and affinity for clay courts, the staff asked Aida if she was reminded of any notable tennis pros, to which she responded “Uhmm, no, nobody really comes to mind.”

Rafaela is scheduled to make her debut for the Terrapins against Michigan sophomore Rogeria Federer on April 11th, however her appearance is currently up in the air. She’s reportedly in France right now, training at some venue called “Roland Garros,” but hopes to be in College Park by gameday.
